Thanks to everyone for the last minute primers and encouragement. We glassed the football of the canoe Friday evening with RAKA 5 oz glass and RAKA slow curing epoxy. That stuff gives you all the time in the world, which sure takes a lot of the pressure off.
It took us 3 hours and we were exhausted, but couldn't be more pleased with the results. We did the tape trick to cut a nice straight line in the glass along the chine and it worked incredibly well. Whoever came up with that idea is a genius.
We didn't end up with a single air bubble or spot where the glass floated that I've been able to detect. There are a few shiny spots so I could have squeegeed even more, but I was too afraid of starving the glass.
I scraped off stray fibers and made sure things were smooth for the next layer and today we plan to do the full layer on top. We're taking plenty of pictures but no digital camera so will have to wait until we finish the roll and get them developed. Then I'll have to figure out a new photo posting method since I was using Picture Stage.
All in all, I'm totally pleased.
