: Hey Ken,
: Congrats. on getting your kit!
: Geoff and I have just finished taping the inside of our 16Xl's. Ready to
: glass decks. So far so good. I just have to warn you that even though the
: kit is very complete, we had to buy extra supplies. Buy a box of rubber
: gloves(100 count). Get more brushes and stir sticks. There is not enough
: 6oz fiberglass cloth to cover all the parts they say you should and still
: do the hull glassing so be prepared to buy more.($$$$) Also not enough 1
: 1/2 glass tape for all the seems and definitely not enough wood flour to
: do all the peanut butter work. Get more. Start lining up boat supply
: stores in your area for these things. Otherwise plan ahead to mail order.
: Feel free to ask me any questions along the way. Refer to pics I sent link
: to, to help. Good luck, have fun with it and remember that you are not
: building a piano.

Hey, John, when I built my two Lightnings the only supplies I ran short of were the gloves and the plastic cups. The glass work has to be very carefully planned but there is enough. Stir stix you can make from the scrap pieces Donnie includes in the kit but even then you can use anything to stir the epoxy. I still have tape left over from both yaks and enough wood flour to build another. The kits are well planned so I'm figuring you were perhaps a little liberal. I hate to see WD kits described as inadequate so I had to say something. Any extra $$$ with these kits are a few nickels and dimes. I know the Solace 16 is a new kit created by WD. As it goes, I'll head over to WD and let them know you weren't completely satisfied with the supplies sent, I'm sure they will take a second look to be certain their quantities are sufficient. I'd hate to say good things about WD and then have you guys come up short. I know Donnie wouldn't want that. That 16 you're working on is a beautiful boat. I'll be building its 18 ' XL sister sometime this year. I have a couple of other yaks to get built first, including my rebuild.
