Ha, ha! Very funny John. :) I just got in from chasing Dungeness with kayaks and I've eaten my fill, so I'm in a good mood. We'll see how long that lasts though as the seal coat goes on tomorrow night and the 6 oz satin weave s-glass goes on the next day. Will I be cursing that stiff cloth? Who knows?

What are you using for resin John, and how are you applying it to the hull? I don't remember having trouble with large bubbles with the 3.25 oz satin on Holly's boat. Maybe age is creeping up on me and I just forgot. I use a roller and MAS and my shop stays around 60 most of the time. Perhaps those things make a difference.

After some more, ahem, testing and researching strength and temp performance, I'm switching to Clear Coat for the wet-out on my King.

It must be kind of weird having a camera crew hovering around. I would have to clean up both my shop and my vocabulary.

Cheers,
Ted

: We finally got glass on the hull of "Knot Likely" - my King
: project. The hull was finished ten days ago, but we had to wait for a
: window of opportunity to match my schedule with the camera crew.

: I used 3.25 oz tight weave since I ordered it before the Bulletin Board's
: offical research assistant in Issaquah posted his findings ;) and found it
: much more challenging than the 4 & 6 oz. plain weave I used on the
: Return. I guess I'll try the 4 oz. S-glass when I use up my stock of this
: stuff.

: Two of the other folks starting boats came along to watch (and help.) Because
: of the tight weave, it was very easy to get bubbles under the glass - not
: outgassing from the wood (I'd done a seal coat the night before AND we
: were working on the decending side of the temperature curve) but bubbles
: caused by the surface tension of the resin - it would wet out the cloth,
: but leave air entrapped under the glass. Using a brush vertically with a
: poking motion seemed to be the best way to get rid of them, and squeeging
: as it started to kick was also helpful. I was really glad to have the help
: - I don't think I could have cleared all the bubbles if I'd been working
: alone.
