: Folks: Someone give me a hint at how to start those first strips in the
: recess area on my Guillemot. I've cut the thing and cleaned the edges. But
: I'm having a hell of a time fitting the first strip at the back and the
: first strip at the front. Not only do these need to be cut to fit, but the
: deck curvature works against me as well. It almost seems like I should
: double the thickness of the first strip, match the round (or pointed in
: front) end and sand it down after the glues dries.
: Any input?
: Thanks
Rob,
sounds familiar to me. I messed up several would-be strips before accepting that the deck curvature plus the bevel was just too much. Some people have done the thicker strip thing. Myself, I pulled out the jigsaw and re-cut the very end of the recess in a straight line, giving me a slightly pointy recess (v-shape). That made the fitting muuuch easier. Nobody but myself knows I cheated.
In the end I scaled down the cockpit so I could show off the joint !
Here´s a really lousy foto of the recess.
