A quick test, drop the GPS receiver inside the hatch, go for a paddle, and see if it was working. If so I think you can make your case work. Ensure you do NOT use any conductive materials (like, metal, or carbon) in the making of the case.

If the hatch test does not work, you may have to build an antenna that is exterior to the case? could this hook into your current antenna some how?
