: I'm about ready to glass the coaming lip (step 9 on p 115 of Nick's book). It
: seems unlikely to me that I'll be able to get the fiberglass to wrap from
: inside the stockade to the top of the lip and then around the edge of the
: lip to the under-lip. Will it be enough to have a good solid layer of
: fiberglass from the inner stockade to the top of lip and end at the edge
: of the lip (and just make sure that the under-lip is well coated with
: epoxy)?
: As always, thanks!
Hey Wes,
I ran my glass from the fillet at the recess/coaming joint on the outside up, under, and over the lip, then down the inside of the coaming. So it can be done. However, I did get a few air bubbles under the lip at the top of the coaming. Maybe one day I'll drill a tiny hole into the pocket and inject it with some epoxy. Anyway, they're out of site unless you look for them.
Cut the glass so you have a good straight edge on one side, plus a little extra on the width. Paint the area with epoxy, then lay the glass in place, You can slide the glass around in the wet epoxy and work it into place. And . . the glass doesn't have to be one long piece. All you need here is wear protection.
I think that I've read here on the BB of some people just sealing the lip with epoxy and varnish - no glass on the lip, but don't quote me.
Happy Building.
Charles.
