I had no significant woodworking experience (ie. nothing beyond right-angle
cuts and things that go together with screws or bolts) and I built a version
of Nick Schade's Great Auk without experiencing any difficulty. I've since
built a hybrid cormorant. But I still feel that the instructions for
building paddles make them look too intimidating (and Moore's Kayakcraft
wants me to build a strongback that looks harder to make than the kayak, so
I used Nick's internal 2x4 method :-)

Strip-built kayaks really are the most forgiving things you can ever set
out to make out of wood !
