Thanks for all of your responses. I didn't mention that it's a keyhole cockpit with a pretty sharp bend at the front. I more-or-less followed the procedure Jay laid out except that today I ran fiberglass up the inside of the coaming stockade and onto the lip. I didn't try to go past the edge of the lip - I had a real hard time getting the tape to lie flat as it was. I liked Pascal's idea about putting a fillet where the outside coaming stockade meets the lip but my lip is pretty close to the deck especially in the back and I don't think I'd have room to work it in.
I must admit that I found the the coaming to be the most difficult part of the boat so far - I've more-or-less been stuck on it for nearly a month now. From what I're read, it sounds like next week's taping of the deck and hull will be even worse - I hope not! :-)
