Last time I checked, wood (if managed properly) is a renewable resource. Depending on your source you can do the recycle thing and get your wood from already harvested stock.
For that matter why do environmentalists drive their SUV's (with no trailer hitches) to work and not car pool?
I would love to see an epoxy replacement that is user friendly and environmentaly friendly - yes - and do the job it's supposed to do.
I like working with wood. I love the smell. I love the feel. Epoxy I don't care for as much. But someone who doesn't live in my skin won't convince me I'm doing damage to the environment when they turn around and drive such vehicals and fly to corporate meetings and seminars 8 times a year (or per month). Think of the impact to support *that* industry.
Try adding up the environmental cost for an injected molded/formed poly tub that they call kayaks. I'd like to see a side by side chart comparing overhead costs and heating/ cooling impacts and reuse/disposal of processing chemicals and catalysts. Throw in the VOC solids that escape into the atmosphere from such plants.
All said and done - I'll take my stripper anyday.
I'm in a perfectly good mood - don't cloud the issue with facts :-D

: David Hazen's recent announcement that he no longer supports
: epoxy/glass/wooden boats as environmentally sound.
