Some first-time boatbuilders do so because they want a good kayak, but can't
affort a "good" factory boat. You on the other hand, want to build a boat but
not use it ? It's kind of like putting the cart before the horse.

Why not buy the plastic boat of your dreams, paddle it, and then determine if
kayaking is for you. If it is, build one out of wood and kayak happily
ever after.
