: Hi Grant,
: You can use automotive pin stripe or any color/width of good electrical tape
: if your following the shear. I use pin stripe on every boat. It looks
: cool, is cheap , and lasts between varnish jobs

: As far as graphite for color, I have not used it. I use epoxy pigments
: (black) all the time. You would have to use several thin coats to get
: complete color and you will probably have trouble with the color getting
: under the masking tape, leaving a fuzzy edge. Tape over varnish is much
: easier to apply and remove.

: Good luck,

Hi Grant, I have used epoxy/graphite on a canoe hull bottom. Mixing graphite with epoxy makes a very runny mixture. It will not stay on a vertical surface and will creep under masking tape as Larry mentioned. The mix I used was epoxy/graphite/cabosil. This makes a thicker mix and avoids the above problems. I applied two fill coats of this mixture and the black color is uniform. I got the proportions from Tom Angelakis' web site (link below).
Good luck. Glen in Baie-St-Paul.
