Don't feel bad, I'd love to take a paddle in the Great Lakes, or to meander through a murky blackwater swamp. You just have to make the best of what you have. Of course I must say it's doggone nice paddling here. I know of a shipwreck that lies in 48 feet of water, and you can see every bit of her from the surface. The water is just that clear. However, there is no freshwater whatsoever, not even a tiny ditch, so you have to pack all your water. My water filter has been packed away for quite some time now.

Here you get quite a bit of wind and swell, but you probably get worse from what I hear. Four-foot seas are pretty normal here. Also there are those Caribbean showers that pop up from nowhere. I was walking the dog the other day and it was sunny and calm. We got back to the house and I was pouring her water (She's kinda spoiled- after her walk she gets water from the refrigerator!) and I heard rain on the roof. I looked out and it was pouring down and the wind was blowing hard. Five minutes later it was over and sunny again. We like the rain because that's where we get all our water. I have a 12,000 gallon cistern that collects water from the roof, and then it's filtered and that's my water supply for the house. I've never run out. The pump leaked once and caused half of it to drain out, but it filled up in a few weeks.
