Hybrid Paddle Finish

I like using a hybrid paddle finish. Like many stated, I also like an oiled finish rather than varnish on areas that I grip with my hands. It gives a better grip when wet and doesn't raise blisters. However, I also dig my blades into enough sand, mud, and rocks to want them tougher. Oil doesn't penetrate far and a little abrasion and the blade loses its waterproofing and the wood quickly gets ragged. On the blades I use a polyurethane finish because it is hard and tough and easily recoated.
