There is a school of thought that fiberglassing the inside of the hull helps prevent the dreaded black ick. As the boat ages, the epoxy coating develops microcracks. Water enters and soon you have the black ick. Fiberglassing reinforces the epoxy so it doesn't crack. Don't put on a fill coat. That saves weight and gives a nonskid surface to step on.

Even if you don't put fiberglass on the hull, put a patch of fiberglass where your heels will be for wear resistance.
