You've got good advice so far. I've built quite a few S&G but never from any kits. Both companies have quality products but I lean toward CLC (just one of several reasons mentioned by Tom). I might mention that there are also several other good companies with kits and plans. I've used butt joints and scarf joints. Now I use almost all butt joints. I've used fiberglass on both sides, and only tape on the inside with fiberglass on the outside. This depends on the thickness and strength of the plywood for me. I've also built 4 or 5 boats with no fiberglass and had no problems. Simply different techniques. Follow the directions from the kit you get. If you have questions just ask...someone will have AN answer. Like Kurt says...there are many roads to success. Have fun.
