I'm at the same point. I even feel like I could do better on the first few strips of the cockpit recess (and I only put those in a few days ago). But I figure as my skills increase there will always be things I thought I could do better (or,as you say, know I could do better). No matter how my skills improve, and that learning curve is sooo steep on the first boat, I'll always end up with better techniques, skills and knowledge than I started with.

Regardless, my boat is perfect in that it captures my skills and freezes them in a (still) fully functional form. You can even see the increase in workmanship from the hull to the deck and the deck to the stems, etc.

My wife has forbade me to build another boat. So at least for a while, this one will suffice. I'll maintain my skills (and even put them to good use) by building furniture an other projects aimed at domestic bliss. But someday, I'll build another and it will capture my well-developed skills for that time (doubtless I'll still know that there are things that I could have done better).

Lastly, no one will look at the boat with the same critical eye that you do. How many people do you know with beautiful wooden kayaks? Most people will be so impressed with your project they will be astounded. You may be too! Especially when the guy in the toll booth comments on what a beautiful boat you have.

Finish it! Revel in the lack of perfection! It's you and your creation! Paddle it and enjoy the accolades!
