: Hey Neighbor, whatchya got an airconditioner in YOUR garage??

Hi Rehd, well, sort of. I have a swamp cooler, and if I know I'm going to be in the garage I can shut up the rest of the house but leave the door to the garage open. This keeps the garage a little cooler than it would be otherwise.

: What are you doing, seal coat or a glass layer?

Actually, I haven't even gotten the hull together yet. First, I will be joining the panels at their "puzzle joints" to give me 16' long pieces of wood. After joining the puzzle joints, if I follow the destruction manual, I will be stitching and glassing the seat. The Waters Dancing kits come with a nifty Okume seat which I will probably pad with ???. Glassing the hull is probably still a good week or two away. Since it's summer I've got more time to devote to building.

: Best method I've found is mix the epoxy ( and get it mixed very well ) and
: just pour it on the work. Spread it out with a roller or squeegie

Sounds like good advice. I'll start small and use a squeegie.

: If you are doing saturation coats on the plywood, just mix a couple of oz's
: and pour it down the length of the panel. Spread it around and squeegie it
: off. If it gets foamy while you are working, you are working it a bit too
: much... back and forth. Pull that foam off in a cup and toss it.

I'm still up in the air about this. The manual makes no mention of a precoat to keep from starving the glass on initial wetout (is that a "saturation coat?), but the Newfound Woodworks fiberglassing video that I bought does show using a precoat. If I do coat the bare wood before laying out the 'glass, do I need to wait a day or so before I lay the 'glass, or can I do it sooner to get a good chemical bond? Anything else I need to keep in mind if I go that route?

: You won't have any problems this week, it's windy and the temps are dropping
: down to the 80's for a couple of days then slowly back up.

Yeah, but unfortuantely, I won't start glassing in earnest until next week or so.

take a scraper and scrape them down.
: Easier and safer than sanding.

Good advice. Can you recommend a good scraper?

: If you need any help, I'm just around the corner.... After work that is...
: Usually around 5 to 6. If you want my number, let me know...

Yep. I just may take you up on that offer when I start 'glassing the hull. Let's get in touch. I could buy pizza and your favorite beverage for your help.

Don't let the
: nerves get the best of you,

Nervous? Me? :)

: and most of all, have fun..... :)
Of course! Fun is what I'm all about!

Thanks Rehd,
Ken
