: How does one sand the very ends of the kayak? I can't reach the ends with

Make a sanding paddle. 20" long stick with a paddle blade end.

Glue a wedge shape piece of wood on the end (point forward)
and cover it with thin foam and staple a piece of 36 grit paper on that.

You will have no problem reaching into the stems and no brused knuckles.

Then switch to 50 grit and you're done.
