: Rehd is absolutely correct. But if you may have other uses around the house, consider the Bosch 1587AVSP (I think that is the designation) or the Milwaukee equivalent (Both about $159).
I thought a more expensive saw didn't matter, until I read the recommendations here, and got a used Bosch for $40 at a flea market. There are blades available for cutting every material imaginable; with a 10 tooth/in. blade you can cut easily through 2" pressure treated wood; I cut up a 275 gal. fuel tank with a metal cutting blade (worked better than "Sawzall"). It has tremendous power - you probably won't use a circular saw again. I, too, used the black and decker type throw-aways for years - probably purchased $159 worth over the previous 30 years. So Impressed with the Bosch that I actually bought one new for my brother.
Btm. line - you don't need one for a kayak. But if you are a homeowner and $159 isn't excessive, you will find frequent uses for it. This is one tool that I wish I had purchased many years ago.
