: I built one stitch-n-glue kayak from a kit. Now I will build one or more from
: plans. I have hand saws, but no sabre saw. Should I get one or stick with
: my japanese hand saws? Sabre saws range from $30 to nearly $200, maybe
: more. What price range has the best values? Why pay more than $50 for one?

I use mine to pay the bills so when my $8.00 B&D model that I bought as a 18 year old yacht rigger and used for 10 years died I bought a top of the line Bosch, works better but it still is a saber saw. Anything that is done for the money can not be cut on the line,I always plane or sand to the line because all saber cut may chip out. For the part timers buy the $30 to $50 models but use the Bosch blades. They make them for the old style mount. When we cut the hatches in the S&G I used the $30.00 Craftmen model with a $5.00 Bi-metal fine blade I gave to my 17 old son,the Bosch sat in the truck.
If you are useing your $200 model, also use a vac to keep the very bad for bearings powdered fiberglass out of the tool and lungs
My $.02,tools are a drug, Don
