The 9" bandsaw is really too small. If I were you I'd look up somebody with a tablesaw and use a thin kerf carbide blade. If you just have to use the bandsaw then a wider blade may help, but also remember that you can't make a bandsaw cut straight against the way it wants to cut. In other words make a freehand straight cut to determine how you want to set up your fence. It may seem slightly crooked, but might work. Also make sure the blade tension is tight and don't force the wood through faster than it will cut. Even large bandsaws have these idiosyncracies, to a degree. I have three bandsaws...a 20", an 18", and a 14". The tablesaw is my first choice for this type of cutting.
