: Hi,

: I am having real trouble cutting 1 x 4 's into 1/4" strips to make the
: stem laminations. I am using clear ash and a 9" band saw. The band
: saw blade tends to track with the wood grain and I can't for the life of
: me figure out how to keep it going strait. Any ideas?

: The last time I did this, I used a friends table saw and had fairly good
: results, but I don't own a table saw and was thinking I should be able to
: do it with the band saw.

: Thanks,
: Stephan

Hey Stephan,

In addition to what the others have said, Check the teeth on the blade. Make sure they're not dull on one side or coated with pitch on one side. Also, if the blade tends to go, for example, to the right during the cut, move the infeed end of your fence to the right. In other words, set up the fence to the cut, not to the saw blade.

Happy Building.

Charles.
