: Why only 12 miles ? Perhaps you need a folding motorcycle.

I live on an island. It's only 12 miles long, 3 miles wide. Actually dirt bikes and enduro's do pretty good here. Sport bikes are good too if not a little limited by the condition of some of the roads. Folding motorcycle? Don't laugh, they make those!

Thanks again, love your kayaks. I love the aluminum Baidarka. I've got to think about materials since things are harder to get here. I usually go to the store and stroll around. Budget Marine knows when I come in that I'm just looking for ideas. What I was wanting to do is to use folding tentpoles from geodesic dome tents as stringers. The fiberglass ones are really flexible and would hold up to the salt. They don't weigh much either. With the right framing I think they would be quite sturdy, and they would collapse down to 2-foot lengths.

I just got a message that I'm going to the Dominican Republic in July. Maybe I can have a folder built by then. I'd better get to work! Is there a mail order place to get that material you use for the station frames? I figure it could be shipped express if they cut it down to size.
