: What are some of the workarounds builders have come up with the deal with
: the CLC North Bay's (I've got the skinny one) ludicrous weathercocking?

: Here are my issues: 1. I don't want to install a fixed skeg.
: 2. My aft hatch opening is directly behind my cockpit, and thus not far aft
: enough to do skeg box work close to the stern -- that is, not without
: cutting another aft hatch opening.

obvious one, install a retractable skeg or rudder over the back.

tough one, set up o/s forms for the front half, and starting from the bow cut down the c/l keel to 1/4 way from the front and cut off say 3/4" from the bow waterline fairing into the 1/4 or 1/3 pt (and up the bow). reseam. the amt of cutoff would be estimated by temp gluing an underside keel/skeg on the rear and adjusting size until balanced.

but the simplest really is the permanent skeg fairing as and under rear keeline . you probably dont actually want the flexibility of having severe weathercocking like with and adjustable- so why even allow the possibility? the only drawback is that it will end up really tracking, but that is the boat you got and the compromise yr in.

the other option would entail moving the seat and cockpit rearward. the bonus of this maybe more legroom/space. would have to add a half moon fillet around the cockpit rim - but looking at all the pics of guys here will show the way.

if it was me, i;d guess and shave 3 length just off the bow portion, and then try to shift the seat and maybe adjust just the cockpit rim, using a diff sprayskirt. often s&gs use 3/4in thick coaming upstands so just abt all that could be carved away(reinf w/ a few lyrs of glass)

anyway thoughts
