: I've been reading archived posts about this stuff and I'd like to use the
: clear coat on the wedding present canoe. I figure I won't be around often
: enough to help them keep it varnished properly, so the better protection I
: can give it to start with, the better.
: I called the "factory" and the closest distributor is Jamestown
: Dist in Rhode Island. But when I went to order some, he talked about a 1
: 1/2 qt kit - a 2 part mix. Is that right? I thought it was just straight
: out of the can with a cross linker available for the top coat. The guy at
: Jamestown didn't know anything about the cross linker, either, which made
: me wonder if he was selling me the correct stuff. I told him I would
: double check it and call him back.
: Thanks for any help in sorting this out. I'd hate to buy the wrong stuff.

Patsy,
I used a total of 3 quarts to put 3 coats on my Panache and 5 coats on my King. You are right about the crosslinker -- a quart comes with a small bottle of crosslinker that is recommended to be added to the last coat. I placed two orders directly from System Three and had no problems. I applied with a West System foam roller and followed with a foam brush. This stuff dries very quickly so one person rolling and another following with the foam brush works well.
