You don't step on my toes at all. Everyone should say exactly what they think. That's the way we all improve what we are doing. I just hope that the epoxy suppliers read some of what we post. I have also used Raka in the last few years. I liked it also, but it was a little faster than I wanted...and the USComposites stuff is cheaper yet still turns out a suitable product for me. I have never used their medium hardener. I have used their thick epoxy/hardener...1 to 1 mix...for mixing up fillet goop. It works fine, but I'm not sure I need to get both. I wish more people would use several different epoxies and report on all of them.
The colors and pattern on the deck of my kayak are the result of running out of WRC. From the sheer line up I was only going to use the pine, three redwood strips, pine, and then complete the rest of it with WRC. Well...I started to run out and couldn't find any suitable WRC at Home Depot (I have to pick through it and get what I can when I can)...so I just used what I had laying around.
Oh...the little playboat. The very first boat I ever built was 8' long and 16" wide, shaped similar to the little playboat, but had a 2X2 frame. I was 13 at the time. I built quite a few more after that. Anyway...now...after a hiatus from boatbuilding for many years, for various reasons, I put that little one together just to have something to run trotlines. It's more than 16" wide...because I'm now more than 16" wide...but it's still only made with 8' plywood. I could't wait to finish it before I saw how it floated so I took it to the lake. Everyone had been saying it was going to sink. I got a lot of flack for building the little thing. When I stuck it in the water...I was up on a high dock and it was a long way down into the boat. I just plopped down in it and immeadiately turned turtle....losing a $400 pair of new trifocals. My wife was up on the dock yelling at me..."What are you doing in the water? Quit playing around out there...get out of the water!!! You're too old to play in the water." Oh...did I mention this was winter? Anyway I took the little playboat home and started a 16 footer. I have now finished the little playboat...except for paint...and the kids/grandkids have a blast with it. So do I. That's how I got back into boat building...and I'm here to stay.
