Jim,
I built the King. At first I thought it might be too much for me at 175# and 6' but have been pleasently surprised. The kayak handles like a dream empty fir day paddles; fast, nimble and above all, stable. I just finished a 2 week trip down the Sacramento River loaded with 14 days supplies and the kayak handled the fast water quite well. In short, this is a good all around kayak. I found the construction with the external strongback to be as easy as strippers get. I bought Joe's very nice seat and with slight padding additions in a few places it fits like a glove and is extremely comfortable. I also used the roller's recess on the cockpit although I cannot roll and it makes the kayak more comfortable; you can lean back to stretch. Overall, this kayak is my favorite. It lives in San Diego, and although it is in the shop getting minor cosmetic surgery from the trip (I hit a rock. Several rocks.)it is generraly available for a paddle.
Good luck on whatever you decide to build. See you on the water, Dave
