Picture 100 staples, semi-sharpened, peeling off the stick and shooting of the grinding wheel in any and every direction, at about Mach-2.3.

You will sill get discoloration as the sharp staples will then cut the grain and open up the edges.

If you want staple-less, then don't use staples. Buy a clamp.... save an eye!!
