Hi James,
You could use the cloth you are using for the rest of the boat and cut it into strips but as mentioned. But, for the inside seam it doesn't make much sense to wrestle with home cut tape. You can't see the inside seam so it doesn't have to be really pretty. Do as neat of a job as you can, try to minimize drips, and when you are finished and it is all cured, just run your sander over it to take off any sharp edges that may cut you or your gear. I would suggest using the hand cut tape on the outside seam, due to the fact that it is easier to fair and wets out clearer and more easily.
