That was typical for me as well. The only thing that I can deduct is that at the end of the cut when there is no more strip to rest against the infeed part of the fence, the strip wants to rock slightly towards the router bit and remove extra material. I used a feather board located directly next to the router bit spanning both parts of the fence. Like you said, no big deal, it's only an inch. We would all be so lucky if that was the only scrap we had in making a strip kayak!!!
