I used strip built panels, glassed on both sides with 4 oz - likely overkill. If you look at the bottom of the kayak today, it's clear I've seen my share of rocks, including launching (loaded) off of a rock ledge at Lake Powell. I understand the engineering thoughts behind foam bulkheads, but I don't want to 1) give up the space, and 2) deal with the shrinking of minicell foam. I figure if I hit a rock that hard, I've got other issues.
