I did something similar in that I used a zero clearance fence as you suggested, then constructed a vacuum hood which did a GREAT job of handling the dust & chips. A bunch of us recently ran about 4 boats worth of strips through this setup without snipe.

(I used both straight and angle cut feather boards - much prefer the angle cut ones.)
