Take a look at Waters Dancing's Duet 16. They export kits from Edmonton to the US. I am building a Lightning 14.
I have read that many double cockpit kayaks require good stroke coordination between the paddlers, not likely with young kids, unless the kayak is quite long and the cockpits well separated.
