: The plans for my S&G canoe call for taping the inside seams but not glassing,
: but awhile back I got a lot of folks recommending I glass the inside. I
: have plenty of glass left so I'm going to do that. I'm not sure if that
: means I can/should skip the tape. I have a roll of 6 oz tape and I don't
: mind using it if it's going to make a significant difference in strength
: and durability of the canoe. But if it's only going to add weight and the
: layer of 5 oz glass is quite sufficient for strength, then I won't tape.
: What's anyone think/recommend? I'm getting the inside fillets cleaned up and
: I hope we'll be ready to tape and/or glass this weekend.
Patsy;
The plans call for tape, so that will be enough. On the other hand you could glass it instead but not both.
my 02 cents, Terry
: In answer to the questions I feel coming, I don't want to build a tank, but I
: do want the canoe to last for a good long time and be as maintenance free
: as possible for the recipients. So I don't want to overbuild but I don't
: want them to have to treat it with kid gloves either. Since I'm a first
: time builder, I need to stay aware of weight as well. I'm sure the weight
: is beginning to add up and I don't want it to get out of hand.
: Thanks for your thoughts and opinions,
: Patsy
