Yo Patsy

I cloth glassed the floor on my s&g guillemot for all the above reasons: extra strength (apparently the flex is greater on the inside when you hit an obstacle, hence having more strength on the inside is important); cloth = lots of epoxy which makes the wood more waterproofed (although old west system manuals reckon that just epoxy on its own is adequate);

An additional incentive for me to cloth sheathe the inside floor was to give a measure of abrasion resistance from jamming gear inside the hull for camping expeditions (I am way past dry bags and in my old age need camp chairs, cookers and billies and innumerable other creature luxuries...) not to mention boot loads of sand and grit that finds its way on board.

I sleep easy at night knowing that my kayak has a reasonable amount of protection from these factors. Since it is not a racer, extra tank strength is an added bonus.

Cheers Pete
