Aluminum durability

In Response To: Some materials make more sense then others (Mike and Rikki)
Seems to me that I've seen quite a bit of aluminum used in boats in salt-water environments for quite a few years with little structural problem. Doesn't seem to me it would be a significant problem - especially in a folder one could disassemble and even rinse off once in a while. I'd think that routine hull wear and tear would have more impact.
