There is nothing wrong with being tired of a project. Building a kayak does take a substantial amount of time, and as summer approaches you would probably rather paddle than sand. Building a kayak should be fun. If it is not fun it is perfectly acceptable to go take a college course instead. But I can understand how it can sort of hang over your head and you just want to be through with it and on to the next thing.

I've found part of the problem can be a desire to do the best job possible. This creates situations where you don't want to start a task because you aren't quite ready to do it right, or you futz with a task for a while trying to get it just so. This tends to drag the project out without providing a lot of progress to show for the time spent. I much prefer building projects when I am not that concerned with the appearance of the final result.

The S&G I am working on now has some large bubbles in the glass near the stems. It would not be too hard to get rid of them, but the boat will work fine with them there. I want to get the boat done, so I am leaving them there. If I get ambitious later on, I'll take the time to sand them out. If I don't, so what, I'll have a new boat and can go paddling. By relaxing about the details I am enjoying the whole process more than when I am really trying to do fine work sweating every detail. The fixing of the mistakes will be a serarate and smaller project and thus less bothersome.

If you are sick of your boat project, either put it aside for a while, or just do the things you need to do to make it sea worthy and worry about the details later. Remember: it is only a boat and it is supposed to be fun.

: I've been getting so SICK of working on our (DaWife and DaHubby's) kayaks
: that i've threatened to use the chainsaw to make a couple of those
: way-over priced shelf units that you see in stores like Eddie Bower.
: (wrong spelling it's phonetic though) DaWife has now labeled the chainsaw
: as a WMD so i can't use it for the next couple of weeks. Pessimistically
: speaking we should be launching around independence day. I think for me
: that will have a dual meaning this year - no more ball and chain in the
: garage.

: P.S. I can't wait to see the end product of your bravery.
