I seem to recall an article in Woodenboat Magazine about a guy from the bayeau country who built a stipper canoe using scrap cypress from an old factory building. Weight might be an issue but you couldn't find a better use for that wood. Most of us would be in hog heaven if we could get long clear pieces of anything. Get a better saw and have at it.

: I Have A bunch of lumber (cypress) from an old barn . More than a hundred
: years old. The planks are about 2 feet wide or so and 5-6 inches thick
: some are over 25 feet long. I've cut A few into strips and it looks good
: and is clear and flexible. Now my question is would this be a good choice
: to build a kayak out of? I cant cut the big boards to easy the boards are
: just to big. Even cutting down the smaller ones into strips really makes
: my new Ryobi 10" table saw work HARD. But it is possible. I plan on
: making 2 boats one for my son and 1 for myself. Is cypress ok to use in a
: Kayak? I hope so I have enough to make lots. Thanks Chris
