Martin,
I have not heard of anyone doing this particular scenario (I haven't been around this stuff for long either). I'm no expert or engineer but it seems that scenario would be a little iffy once put back together. Most of the sites I've seen are for sectional kayaks that assemble and disassemble at the front and rear bulkheads with many through bolts making the connection. These seem to be pretty strong given the double bulkheads and connections. To do this with two pieces and then tape it back together may not be sufficient to withstand the forces that will be upon it. Maybe using some interior butt plates would give the necessary strength. Interesting idea, good luck to you.

: Im hoping to build a s&g from a kit supplier (chesapeake lt 17 to be exact).
: My problem is that the only suitable place I can build it hasent got a
: suitable exit - so I would have to cut it in 2 to get it outside and then
: re-tape the whole thing together again permanently. ( this stage should
: take much less time so I can get a place for a couple of days or so)
: Anybody else done anything similar? I'm hoping this will be lighter than
: those designs designed to be "take apart"
: thanks
