Steve,
Thanks for the good advice. I am assuming the wax paper keeps the coaming from adhering to the deck during building? What advantage does that provide over simply epoxying the first layer down and each subsequent layer?

Your site was pratically a how to for the coaming. You mentioned how many pieces you used and how wide they were. The picture clearly showed the beads and coves and you even had a picture showing the glues/cement. That along with the text was like a manual.

I think I'll stick with the stacked ply too. I really like the vertical strips because of the finished product but I have seen some really nice stacked coamings. The fiberglass cloth lip will have to wait until I have a few more projects under my belt.

I plan to do wood toggles just as you have done. I think they look great. I just hope the rapping of them against the kayak won't make me insane. Now that I have my deck on and can see how high it rises, I am considering a day tube in the future. I saw yours and really liked it. Chesapeake Light Craft had a good article on making one so I figure I could do it between the two sources.

Nice work on your Explorer.

: Tony,

: A glass coaming is not that hard to do, for me, it was a little time
: consuming. The results were nice, though.

: As for the impatience issue, I'd go with the ply stack method. It's a quick
: build, and looks good too.
: Hope that I helped. Thanx for checking out my site too!
: Steve
