: I am not the expert on wood types but when I was trying to find some swamp
: cypress for a custumer,a local in New Orleans said it is not possoble but
: a forest grown was.He said it has simalar properties, all are grown in the
: deep South. Port Orford is on the Pugent Sound in Washington State. Ceders
: can grow is lots of places but most of the stuff we see is from the
: Northwest and most are lighter than Cypress. My guess is around 32 to 34
: lbs. per cubic foot for Cypress and 23 to 28 for ceders.Hope this helps
: and is close to right.
: Don
port orford is in southern coastal oregon (about 50 miles N of cali)
Ive been told that the Port Orford cedar will grow inthe puget sound, but that the DNR does not carry it. I am currently looking into some private nursaries that may provide this.
biologicly cedar and cypress are kissing cousins. with cypress being usually found in more southern warmer climates.
