It seems like it would be easier to use the kayak as the frame for the trailer with wheels attached to one end (kinda like the portage rollers) and the other end or the kayak attached to the bike.

This way minimal weight is added. How much support do you need hauling a kayak b/h a bike? I wouldn't imagine much.
