Excellent! All four of my yaks I built my rudder brackets out of carbon fiber, exactly like you did, too. Three of them have carbon fiber rudders, the frist a mahogany rudder laminate.

How many plies did you use? My favorite is 2 X 2 5 oz carbon fiber which I used 14 to 18 layers.

Tell you how strong it is: I was pushed backwards by a wave into a sandstone wall by wave runner's waves at lake Powell. I het so hard the wood rudder laminate broke and a 1/4 inch stanless steel bolt was bent, but the carbon fiber rudder bracket just had a scrape, easily sanded out later after the trip.

I tell you, I love carbon fiber...but I better be careful when I say that, I'd hate to get Tom excited again!
