: I am planning my deck lines for my nearly finished Pygmy COHO. I have settled
: on using KajakSport deckfittings to hold the cross hull bungees and the
: perimeter static lines. The question I have is what to do at the bow. The
: deck at the bow of the COHO has a pronounced peak along the center line.
: This may (probably) make it difficult if not impossible to mount one of
: the hard deckfittings, which seem designed for generally flat surfaces, to
: the peak. (I haven't yet received the deckfittings I ordered so some of my
: concerns are based on assumptions of the design of the KajakSport
: fittings)

: I have thought of putting a soft fitting at the bow (1" webbing doubled
: over into a loop and screwed into place, hopefully screwing into the
: end-pour). However, I have heard that the soft fittings aren't appropriate
: for perimeter lines.

: Any comments or suggestions?

: Thanks,

: - Joe

Who says folded webbing aren't appropriate? they're better than anything because you can sit in the cockpit and conceivably loosen a 35" of perimeter line and do rope tricks if you were so inclined. Emergency tow line, roof rack tie downs, whatever.

On the Coho I'm refinishing I started with a folded over loop of tubular nylon with a big #14 x 1 1/2" ss. screw and finish washer holding it down. All of the kayaksport fittings would pop off before that would let loose. It also provided a place to fold the toggle handle under.
Last year I sunk a 1 1/2"-1 3/4" ss ring into the ends at the top of the deck. I drilled and hole sawed a slot for the ring, made the interior of the hole bigger than the deck hole, put the ring in and filled it with epoxy thickened with the bedding additive,,forget the name but it's a west systems thichener like cabosil but more like concrete than light dust. It doesn't sit as high as a u-bolt and looks kind of nice while protecting the ends from dings when the kayak is rolled over.
on the rack "hey your kayak is digging into mine",,,good, then yours isn't digging into mine!
