Yes, it can be brushed on but it would be a lot of work unless one is really good at applying a finish with a brush(I am not). It would make more sense to use a spray system. Reason being it does not have the same flow and leveling characteristics as a marine varnish, and it needs to be applied in thin coats to avoid becoming brittle which would be hard to do with a brush.You should also add a flex additive especially on s&g boats if they have any large panels that would be subject to any flexing action. How it goes on is pretty much the way it is going to dry. You could sand and sand and sand to get it looking like a spray finish and if you don't mind doing this it can be done this way.If a person wanted to use this system exclusively( of course marine varnishes can be sprayed as well) they could invest in a small air compressor and a decent gun from www.harborfrieght.com. You don't have to use an HVLP system, these are mainly for minimizing waste of the product.Most people who do this already have a respirator and other related safety gear so you probably already have everything you need to protect yourself and the only other expense would be the spraying equipment.Like I said, I was told that this system, with proper storage, could easily last 20 years.
