Raising the seat raises the center of gravity which would make the boat more unstable. This is the first time I've heard that interpreted to be more "responsive". You can make a minicel foam seat pad for more comfort without raising your center of gravity. A half inch a seat height can make a "stable" boat feel like it has no initial stability. What kind of seat were you using and how thick was the PFD? I had this image of a seat raised to over an inch?
