: What is awkward is how high the coaming is and how wide the boat is. It makes getting the paddle to the water feel a little clumsy.
: At 24"wide the boat is pretty stable. When I sit up higher I find that the boat reponds a little better to my leaning. and the paddling action is much more comfortable.
Ah, didn't realize the boat was so wide. Have you tried a different length paddle? I went to a shorter paddle when I started paddling a narrower boat and it made life much easier. I could keep the paddle stroke closer to the boat.
: Do you have your seat fixed directly to the floor of your cockpit?
It the 2 QCC boats I've got, the seat is glued to the floor and the side braces. I've built 4 stitch 'n glues, one sof, and 2 strippers and all those seats were removable but had fixed locations determined by notches I cut in the minicell that anchored the seats next to the side supports. Mariner features a sliding seat/footpeg arrangement that allows one to trim the boat while you're on the water by moving the whole assembly.
: What I'm getting at in a round about way is, should I just glue the seat to
: the floor?
You don't have to glue the seat as long as it doesn't move around when you're in the boat, or will flop out if you flip. I use the footpeg adjustments for fit when other paddlers use my boats. Once you've got it perfectly dialed-in for you, you could certainly glue it in with a few dabs of contact cement. It doesn't take much.
