Hmm, those are long strips of hardwood that are tacked on to cover the seam. You see them on used almost like a molding. I'll probably put one on my boat; it will make a nice shadow along the sheer line and accentuate the look. The Night Heron is almost like a missile shape though and I would hesitate to break that smooth transition from hull to deck. Is there any way you could setup a compass to 1/8" and scribe a new line below the gap line; then you could shave down to the scribe and presumably get a perfect fit. Just an idea; I don't know if it would work.
