Hey all:
This post is way, way off topic, so I apologize in advance.
I'm thinking about building a hot tub. We had a redwood hot tub when I was growing up, and it was great. I think I understand the construction, I was planning on using a large bead / cove for the staves, tongue / groove for the floorboards, and a sort of rabbit-type thing where the staves joing the floor. Of course I'll purchase the compression bands and pump and heater.
Anyway, turns out 'all heart' clear redwood is real expensive. Then I get to thinking, I built my great auk out of western red cedar, and the high grade stuff is cheaper than redwood.
So does anyone have any advice on my choice of wood for a hot tub? Could western red cedar hold up to the temperature and chlorine? Any other woods I'm overlooking? Cypress?
