: Unfortunately, my Night Herron does not track as well as I would like. Of
: course this was discovered AFTER I completed the boat, naturally. Any one
: have any ideas, on the installation of a skeg, and how. I would rather
: avoid a rudder, but a small permenant skeg might be the best option.

: Thanks in advance.

I'm not familiar with how the Night Herron paddles. However I do know adding a skeg to any kayak will make it weathercock less or if big enough it will even make the kayak leecock. So before adding a fixed skeg, paddle in a good crosswind. If it weatercocks more than you like then add a skeg and be prepared to shave some off to dial in the cross wind hadling that you find acceptable. I found I am more tollerant to variences in tracking than I am in having to fight a boat to stay on course in a crosswind.

Moving the CG also affects weathercocking, forward more, back less. So if you also move the seat it becomes a balancing act between skeg size and seat position, together affecting tracking and weathercocking.
